The Foodblogger's Guide to the Globe

Petra from Chili und Ciabatta invited me to participate in the joint project The Foodblogger's Guide to the Globe or 5 things to eat before you die, started by Melissa from The Traveller's Lunchbox.


The idea is to present 5 things you've eaten and think that everyone should eat at least once before they die. Quite difficult, no?

As a Swiss living now in Andalucia, Spain I would like to present some tasty Swiss and Spanish specialities you should taste if you have the possibility.

chorizo 1. Chorizo, the typical Spanish pork sausage, seasoned with Spanish paprika.
In Switzerland I've never tried this sausage, even you can buy it in specalised shops. Once arrived in Spain I did not taste it immediately. I do not why, because it's delicious! In the meantime I have some good recipes where I use it. For example you can combine it with Risotto. So you have an Italian/Spanish-speciality. The recipe you'll find here.

Turrón 2. Turrón, typical of Christmas, is a sort of nougat confection. There are two varieties: blando/soft (variety Jijona)
and duro/tough (variety Alicante). For the Mousse de Turrón you need the soft one.

Raclette 3. Raclette - The Raclette Cheese is heated, either in front of a fire or a special machine, then scraped onto diners' plates.
The best you eat it on an alp in Valais. A lot of ambiance and no smelly livingroom. ;-) The modern way is of coures an electric table-top grill with small pans to heat slices of cheese in.

4. Zuger Kirschtorte - a cake soaked with Zuger Kirsch, a clear brandy made from small black cherry. Everytime I go to Switzerland I need to eat at least one piece! It's heaven for me! ;-)

Pollo arrosto con 2 limoni - Brathuhn mit Zitrone 5. Last but not least Pollo arrosto con due limoni, an Italian recipe of Marcella Hazan. Really everyone should prepare it once.
"Para chuparse los dedos" (mouth-watering), Spaniards use to say.
